Worm Tea – Simple to Brew

by Cassandra

in worm tea

I’m on a worm tea kick.  I’m brewing tons of it to drench my dad’s lawn this fall.  Fall is a great time to reinvigorate soil with compost or compost tea.

I’ve got brewing instructions at our sister site,  My 20 Minute Garden, along with some other worm tea tidbits.

I came across this video yesterday, and really enjoyed it.  The video just goes to show that there are lots of different ways to brew tea, but you really can’t do it wrong.

Some teas are more active than others.  Just soaking compost in water yields a tea, but oxygenating it increases the microbes.  Some teas are optimized for fungi, others for bacteria.  That’s where the recipes come in.  Some people add extra stuff like fish fertilizer or liquid sea weed.  My advice is to make some and try it out.  Develop your own recipe.

About the Video

A few comments before you watch:

  • Note the worms in the bathtubs.  Bathtubs seem to be a perfect outdoor worm bin if you live in a warmer climate.
  • Just an observation, his compost pile looks like sand.  I’d stick to the worm castings.
  • I love his air pump.  You could brew 100 gallons at a time with that baby.
