on avacado peels and pits

in feeding composting worms

I  have noticed that avocado peels and pits in the worm bin never break down.  They are clean as clean can be, but they aren’t going anywhere.

Worms like pre-compost

I’d also like to add that my system of pre-composting worm food works very well.  I have a Rubbermaid bin with some holes drilled in it.  It sits in my back, closed-in entryway.  I started this because I couldn’t do traditional composting year-round because of the snow.

This year, when I started my worm bin, I used this partially-decomposed kitchen waste to start the bin.   It worked so well, I’m still dumping kitchen waste in there.

I stir it every now and then, and take the brown-gooey stuff out to feed the worms.
